Coach Hartley has been a teacher in the SDUHSD high school district from 2004 to the present and has taught at LCC from 2004 -2010 & 2017 – present. Coach Hartley resides locally with his wife Annie (LCC Grad!) and three children Tatum, Grayson, and Micah.
Coach Hartley was the head coach for the Chapman University Panthers from 2011-2022 in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) finishing with an overall record of 163-48. At Chapman, Coach Hartley led the team to 4 SLC Championships (2011, 2016, 2018, & 2019) and 11 straight MCLA national tournament appearances. The Panthers appeared in 7 straight MCLA Final 4 national tournament appearances (2014 – 2021), 4 MCLA Championship appearances (2016, 2017, 2018, 2021), and won the MCLA National Championship and was named MCLA Coach of the Year in 2016.
Before coaching at Chapman, Coach Hartley was the head coach for La Costa Canyon H.S. from 2003-2010 leading the Mavericks to an overall record of 141-29. The Mavericks were North County Conference champions 7 times, appeared in 8 straight San Diego CIF Championship games (03 – 10), had 2 undefeated seasons (2005 24-0 & 2010 23-0), earned 4 CIF Titles (2005, 2006, 2008, & 2010), and the team was twice named state team academic champions for the highest team GPA in CA (2009 & 2010). Coach Hartley was named the CIF Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2010, the LCC Athletics Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2008, and was inducted into the LCC Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011.
Ryan Simmons played collegiately at Syracuse University. Coach Simmons is the offensive coordinator and has been with the Mavericks since 2018. Ryan went to high school at Fayetteville-Manilus in upstate New York graduating in 2012 where he earned First Team All-Central New York honors. He went on to play a post-graduate year at the Salisbury School (Conn.) in 2013 and was named All-Founder’s League. Coach Simmons comes from a long line of coaching legends at Syracuse University: Great grandfather (Roy Simmons Sr.), grandfather (Roy Simmons Jr.), and father (Roy Simmons III) all played and coached lacrosse at Syracuse University. Simmons Sr. and Simmons Jr. are both in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Coach Jimmy Gillan grew up on Long Island and moved to Encinitas in the 1970s. He has coached lacrosse for decades in the local community, has been coaching at LCC since 2008, and is often regarded as the “godfather” of LCC Lacrosse. He coaches the faceoff unit, runs the substitution box, and is in charge of quality control. Coach Jimmy resides in Encinitas with his wife Linda, and two of his boosy played lacrosse in HS in Encinitas and went on to play collegiately at Sonoma State University. Jimbo Gillan – San Dieguito class of ’95 and Sonoma State class of ’99 and Matty – LCC class of ’09 and Sonoma State class of ’13.
Coach Parr is an assistant coach with JV and will be the head coach of the JV B team. An outstanding midfielder during his time at LCC, he went on to help build Cal Poly into a national contender in the MCLA. Coach Parr lives locally with his wife (lcc grad!) and kids.
